Let’s Get Acquainted & Preparing for the Week

Hi there!  I hope you enjoyed your weekend.  I’m linking up again with Mrs. Reed at Flying into First for her weekly linky party and I have some tools that may help you make preparing lessons a lot easier.

Let’s start with the linky, shall we?

This week’s topic is:  Share 3 favorite areas in your classroom.

My first favorite space would have to be my classroom library. Our collection of books just keeps growing and growing.  I love it!

My second favorite area would have to be the carpet .  We gather here each morning for our team meeting (By the way, I have a sports themed classroom),  whole group and SMART board lessons, and heart-to heart talks.

My third favorite area is the word wall.  This is not a great picture, but I tried something a little different this year.  I usually just post second grade sight words on my word wall but now I post sight words for grades 1-3.  I’ve color coded the words.  First grade words are posted at the beginning of the year.  Students know that the yellow words are first grade words and they should know how to read, write, and spell them.  Second grade words are posted throughout the year.  Third grade words are posted at the beginning of the year.  My students love using the third grade words in their writing.  These words come from my district’s writing curriculum.  This system has worked well for me this year. (SN:  The green words are student names)

Well, I’m back to school tomorrow after having a restful spring break.  I spent some time this afternoon, preparing for the week.  We will be doing some activities from my Hooray for Earth Day unit, exploring money, and diving into some economics.  To prepare for this busy week, I pulled out my laminator.  Anyone else have one of these at home?  If not, I would definitely invest.  It is so simple to use. I got it from Wal-Mart.

If you don’t have a personal cutter for home, I would pick one of those up too.  Can’t remember where I got it.  It has been that long.

We will also be working on prefixes and suffixes this week.  I made these little cards that we can put together.  I laminated and cut them.  Then, I put magnets on the back so that I could easily use them during a whole group lesson and move them around on my easel.

Don’t forget to link up with Mrs. Reed over at Flying into First.  Have a great week!
